Welcome Me!

Communication Problem

I'm at a ( new to me ) facility with many PLC's and I'm trying to connect to a SLC5/03 via a laptop but with no luck. When I get to the screen in RSLinx-Lite which allows me to auto configure for baud rate, parity, etc. I get a message that it cannot set these items and to check the cabling. Now, I'm using the cables, software, and laptop that they already had there and I'm assuming that they were able to connect before. I'm running XP-Pro and having to use a Belkin USB to 232 adapter with an AB cable ( I forget the number ) which I'm pretty sure is the correct cable and tried it with and without a null modem adapter. Any help would be appreciated.
