I been thinking about moving on to stage 2. I have a SLC 5/05 processor with power supply, 4 rack chasis, discrete I/O AC and DC, and an input/output analog module. I also have a Micrologix 1100 processor. The only things I dont have is a laptop and the Rs 500 logix / Linx software. I was also wondering what the training program consists of. I've worked for a controls engineer for a year and a half, building control panels and performing basic automation so the basics I have down. Does the program get into the more advanced SLC 500 instructions ( ex. PID,MSG,FFL,FFU ). I just got layed off this week but I still want to persue a carrer in automation.
Thanks for the help
Dominic, I replied to this via email, but I wanted to add this to the forum also:
Hi! It's always good to hear from a subscriber. Sorry for the late reply but I have been out of the office for awhile. I see you canceled your stage 1 subscription and it looks like it is expiring. Knowing that, you can just open up a new subscription for stage 2 and go from there. Looks like you are pretty well set on the hardware end. The software is usually the problem. Since you have a micrologix, you have two pretty cost effective routes. First you can just use the new demo software from Rockwell with the emulate. You should have received an email about that. Once you have a stage 2 subscription you can review the videos on how to set all that up. The same freebie rslogix software that you can use with the emulate will also work with your micrologix. To work with the SLC you will have to purchase the RSLogix500 software package which can be expensive. I would just suggest starting out with the Micro hardware and the emulate package. The emulate does not let you do online programming so having the 1100 is a plus. The 1100 is a great processor with Ethernet so it should give you good real world experience. Just do the programs and send them in! That is the most important thing to make sure you learn with our system. Doing is learning.
Now about the stuff you want to learn. Our primary focus has been the SLC500/micrologix. I include them together because they are so alike. Many of the commands are the same and we cover some of the differences. We have videos on all of the instructions except the PID and I don’t think we have a MSG video either. I plan to have both, but just have not made them yet.
Hope this helps and again sorry for the delayed response.
